taking it at nautilus teachings

we take it
we take it

this is for those of you
who TAKE IT
who sit at the dining table
knowing his fist will hit
the wood
as his words echo
“can’t YOU do anything right…’
this is for those who perch
silently on the sofa
at attention careful not to
speak unless spoken to
or bear the wrath of
“will YOU just shut up…”
this is for those of you
sitting in darkened corners
head bowed
as his words
are hurled at you
“why do YOU make me mad
why do YOU do this to me
what is wrong with YOU
YOU are worthless
YOU are the cause of this
YOU are why i drink
YOU are stupid…”

this is for those of you
trapped in cars
while his voice
rises louder and louder
with each passing mile
as he twists your thigh
with his thumb and forefinger
this is for you who
lie awake at night planning your escape
yet knowing it will never come to pass
as his words echo across your soul
“if YOU ever think of leaving
i will take YOUR kids and
YOU will never see them again…”
this is for those of you
who stayed, so many years ago
when women’s centers did not exist
there were no safe houses
you had no family to turn to
no money
no strength
no self worth
for those of you who are mothers
that stay today because
those tiny beautiful eyes
need you to protect them
to take the brunt of all
anger, rage and accusations
this is for you who stay in fear
who tremble and cry
who feel broken,
who cannot summon the courage
to take those little hands,
grab your purse
and just leave…
this is for the woman
who sits glancing downward
legs crossed
afraid to speak
knowing if she does
her flood of truth
would engulf her
leaving her struggling for air…
this is for all the women
who
TAKE IT
no matter what situation
you find yourself in
i beg of you to

RISE UP IN YOUR FAITH

i know what it’s like to be suffocated
by ugly truths
i know what it’s like to feel shame
i know what it’s like to hide scars
to wear masks
to lie
i know what it’s like to hate so deeply
murder crosses your mind
as you wake from vigilant sleep
i know what it’s like to protect
your children
to throw yourself at the feet
of the devil incarnate himself
and beg
over and over
“please don’t leave us
we need you…”
as you hear his gnarly laugh
smell his stench
cringe at his touch
you

TAKE IT
and
you
STAY…

oh my sister,
i beg you to

be still in faith
be still in faith

RISE UP IN YOUR FAITH

to still yourself
for moments
to hear God’s calling
His words telling you
you are not a mistake
your are worthy
your are loved
you are not alone…
find that one last strand
of inner strength
and leave
find a church
a friend
a shelter
just go
take your children
leave everything
tangible
walk out the door
drive to safety
and

RISE UP IN YOUR FAITH

trust that God will heal you
He will guide you
comfort you
forgive you
people of faith
will wrap you up
in a healing balm
of love
you have never
had before
and soon
you too will
be begging other women
to

RISE UP IN THEIR FAITH

I love this. Very powerful and tragic . He never hit me , but his words and behavior are like bullits thru my heart. You inspire me. Thanks for sharing your agony.
