the problem with art at nautilus teachings

that is the problem
with art

people want it
to match
their homes
the colors they love
what they collect
like roosters
turtles
pigs
and sunsets
but what they
fail to see
is every
piece of work
whether
carved
molded
sewn
knit
painted
written
played
sung
drawn,
is made
from
pain
suffering
love
loss
growth
inspiration
doubt
they all tell stories
they all say
something
each one
will speak to
some
one
person
even
if
it’s only the artist…

artists
create because it’s
in their soul…
they
care about
releasing
in their given
medium
what they
want to say
to the world
in the hopes
there is a connection
a voice
a message
that reverberates
so loudly
across
another’s soul
that
they
have to purchase it
take it home
and spend
hours
days
moments of time
lingering
in the feeling
the colors
movement
they feel
every time
they gaze upon it…

art is messy.
art is fun.
art is living silliness.
art is throwing paint
drawing lines
swirls, circles
it’s smearing charcoal
with our fingers
and blowing away
tiny pieces of
eraser when needed…
art is feeling
the damp clay
beneath our hands
molding it into
what we see
art is sewing
stitch after beautiful stitch
creating lines for
the hands to trace
as we wrap ourselves
up in their warmth
art is patience
time and love
all wrapped up
in a carved
piece of wood
who’s new shape
brings a smile
to our lips
it’s melodic notes
being played
soft and sweet
vibrations
it’s the gliding out
of sound from the lips
of someone we know
and love
art is
two needles
clicking
together
in a measured pace
while beautiful
colors are woven
one row at a time…

in art
there
are
no
mistakes
only
“happy accidents”
“happy little clouds”
as our Bob Ross
used to say…

art is taking a chance
it’s daring to
shout out to
this world
i
am
here

look
at
me

or maybe
it
is
screaming

i am scared
hurting
leave me alone
i need no-one…

art
just
is

and
without it
life
would
be
boring…
