whew!giggle!-nautilus teachings

youth
youth

the sobs
come over the line
she is speaking
so fast
it’s as if
there is a constant
hummmmmmmmmmmm
with sporadic shrieks of
pure sadness
the words mumbled
and running on
faster than the waves
are crashing against the shore
i cannot understand
even one word
all i feel
is her sadness …
i can’t hold her
i can’t calm her
i can’t
i can’t
i can’t
i breathe in
God’s love for me
for her
and breathe out
soft
words of
her youth…
“i’m here baby,
slow down,
breathe…
listen to me…
are you hurt?
no
were you in an accident?
no
is it school?
no
friends?
NO!”

calm
calm your soul

she’s breathing harder now
crying more
and i repeat
“i’m here baby,
calm down,
let’s talk through this…”
step by step
she spills
the truths
that caused
her to break apart
doubting
her beauty
her genius
her creativity
her strength
and she is
wide open
waiting calmly
for me
to help.
my mind,
separating
all the facts
deciphering the words
all jumbled up
like a scrabble game
when at last
the storm subsides
and she is breathing again
slowly
quietly
she is
back in control
of her
self
and then
i
get
her
to
giggle…

we love to make you laugh!
we love to make you laugh!

what i want to do
at this moment
is to have
a deep conversation
with her
turn this into a
learning lesson
of life
but Faith
has taught me
this moment
is not the time…
for a brief flash
i get to be mom
to my very grown up
beautiful child
and
the best part
is
the memory
of
her
as a
child
giggling
in my arms
saying those
lost forever
except in memory
words
“i love you mommy”….
hold them close ladies
they grow up way too fast!
