airport waiting at nautilus teachings

everyone
belongs
to
someone

“Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion’s starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don’t see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love actually is all around.” ~from Love Actually

we all make the trek
to the airport
to pick up
those we love…

we pace
we sit
we read
we just wait
searching faces
for that
ONE
we are waiting for…

each person there
is looking around also
wondering
if they are missing the eyes
they are searching for…
they glance at you
and other strangers
knowing
you are not the one
they want to hold,
the smile they want
to see,
lips they want to kiss…

we pause
look around once more
notice balloons floating,
flowers in hands,
kids running in circles,
people hugging goodbye
and shedding tears…

it’s extremely loud.
but,
you hear nothing.
Not even a sound
of all the thousands
of people rushing by
just the beating of
your own heart
in anticipation
of seeing
THEM…

with each new rush
of arriving passengers
your head raises
your body straightens
you search
watching people
greet and hug
the weary travelers
and when you do not
see
your
person
you sit down
try to focus
on your book
maybe grab a drink
check out social media
yet inside of you
is excitement
anticipation
every ounce of you
is breathing in
each waiting minute
and ultimately
are checking your watch
over and over
like waiting for
a pot of water to boil!!!

waiting in airports
is like watching a wave
at a basketball game
where people rise
slowly in unison
completing the circle
and then gently
sit back down
awaiting their turn
to stand up
once more…

time passes
you check the status
on the flight boards
new people are
arriving every minute to pick
up their loved ones
you’ve seen tons of
people reunited
your heart is beating away
your eyes are searching
your soul in need
of that hug
that reconnection
with them…

seated people
begin to rise up
signaling another
tram load of travelers
arriving and
lazily strolling down
that long isle
their eyes searching
hoping
someone is there
just to greet them….

this time you walk closer
check your watch
and wait,
wait
wait…
until

there
she
is!

the peace
you now feel
has taken
away your anxiety
you breathe in
fresh bubbles of air
and allow the silkiness
of your faith to lead you…
your tall
long blonde haired
beauty
rounds the corner
softly smiles
and lands
in your waiting arms
for that hug
she
too
has needed,
the knowing
mom is still here…

everyone does belong to someone
there is someone for everyone
and people watching is one
of the most fun things
you can do while waiting
for your
someone
to return
to you…

however,
once
your
person
arrives
all you can see
all you can feel
all you can hear
is the beating
of their heart
in rhythm
with yours..
