choices at nautilus teachings

hatred
hostility
anger
judgment
war

love
kindness
joy
acceptance
peace

which do you choose
on a daily basis?

turn on the television
log onto social media
open a magazine or newspaper
and you will be met
with the first 5,
unless you watch hallmark
joel osteen
pbs
or disney…

we have choices
every day
as to what we let
in
to our thought processes…
are you a conspiracy theorist?
do people call you a snowflake?
are you a racist?

where ever you look
some one person
seems to be
labeling
some one else…

most of my life
i was identified
by my older siblings
as fat, stupid, ugly, retarded…
they taunted and teased me so very much,
that i honestly
believed them
which was why
when it came to
choosing my life partner,
as d would say,
‘blonde, your picker was broke…’

is our society fractured?

i guess it depends on how
you look at it…
i try to let most ugly things
roll off of my back
unless they are directed
at me or my family..
choosing silence
has been my weapon of choice
all my life…
i am an observer
an introverted
artist/writer
who would rather
retreat than bully someone
i hate yelling
and fighting
i dislike politics
fake people
laziness
unaccountability
and i have never felt
as if i had to
‘keep up with my neighbors…’

this passed football season
when kaepernick knelt
during the pledge of allegiance
to protest against police brutality
and stated,
“i am not going to stand up to show
pride in a flag for a country that
oppresses black people and people
of color…’
a biracial man
who signed a $126 million dollar contract
to play football
in the United States of America,
who was adopted and raised by
white parents
and led a privileged life
has a right to question
‘where did i come from?
who are my people?’
in fact d and i love watching
that television show…
but his protest
spread all over the league
and soon diehard fans
were burning their gear on
youtube and all social media
saying they were no longer going
to watch or support their NFL team…
in fact, at our 12th annual
super bowl bash
only 8 out of 30 people showed up
and they did not even call!!!
WTF?
we all stood for the
national anthem,
hands over our hearts,
we all cheered
and ate
and drank
and had a blast!

all of this is yelling very loudly
that something is wrong
in our country…
i will say one more word

politics

and then i will say

i don’t do politics

it was extremely heartbreaking
to many of us to see
long time friends
bash each other publicly
on social media
and don’t even get me
started with the meme’s
that were plastered
everywhere
and it hasn’t really stopped
people are always bashing
some political figure…
i say,
who cares?
if a person is elected
that you did not vote for
you suck it up buttercup
and if it really is that important to you,
then work to get
your choice
elected next time,
you can start
by voting…

religion

i am a woman of deep faith
not religion…

yes,
i read the Bible
yes,
i pray to God
yes,
i
believe
but i don’t buy in to
the boxed religion
of today…
i have tried attending
so many church’s
in the past 12 years here
and i still have not found
a church family that fits…
which is why i have,
like so many women i know,
taken to online
bible study groups
weekly podcasts
and facebook groups
there is a huge group of us
who were raised in the 50, and 60’s
that just feel
boxed
in
by judgments
and rules
that do not fit
in society today…

i choose
every day of my life

love
kindness
joy
acceptance
peace
gratitude
silence
faith
family
forgiveness…

i am not here screaming
‘look at me!’
‘listen to me!’
‘do what i do!’
‘believe what i do!’

i am here
quietly painting
writing
teaching
taking care of our grandson
loving my husband
and my family
i am cleaning my house
doing laundry
grocery shopping
and petting my dogs…

what are you doing?

whatever it is
i hope
you are happy
and using your voice
in a kind way…
i hope you are
hugging
loving
listening
giving
and
just being
good
human…
